Carla Charter is a freelance writer from Phillipston, Ma. who is having her first book, A Necessery Harvest published in April by ladderpress. The novel, centers around two elderly characters, Vangie and Elmer, and tells the story of Elmer's desperate and sometimes illegal attempts to assist his wife in battling a reoccurence of cancer while also trying to find a way to pay their mounting medical expenses.
The book is scheduled to be released the week of April 22-29, Cover The Uninsured Week. "I specifically asked the novel be released that week, as I am hoping my writing gives a voice to the 45 million uninsured people in this country."
The book is scheduled to become a radio drama at KPHX 1480 in Phoenix, Arizona the same week.
Charter has been writing new England based e-books for 14 years. A Necessery Harvest is her fifth e-book. "New England people, places and history is what has always inspired my work. Being a multi-generational Yankee myself, my characters actions and speech are almost instinctive."she said.
Charter has also spent 16 years as a journalist. She currently writes for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Quabbin Valley Voice. She is a columnist for the Quabbin Valley Voice and also writes a monthly column for Writefromhome.com. Charter has received two regional awards from the National Federation of Press Women for her writing. She holds a bachelor's degree from Worcester State College, in Worcester, Ma. She currently lives in Phillipston, Ma. with her husband and three children.
