Everyone in the creative economy needs SPACE, places to meet, network, collaborate, create, perform, exhibit, and sell. Join us for the next BUZZ event to discuss some innovative solutions, both real and virtual, to this ongoing subject. After short presentations by our speakers, we hope to see a lively discussion of the issue,
Kim Curtin will talk about her experience operating a very unique art space in the Valley, The Boxcar Gallery in Greenfield.
Jeffrey C. Bianchine (Creative Economy Industries Coordinator for Holyoke) will talk about the City of Holyoke’s efforts to assist property owners in transforming former mill buildings into venues for art, entertainment and innovative enterprises. Space may be abundant in Paper City, but mill owners face many challenges, including financing and code regulations, before their plans can be realized. Hear about some of the initiatives and clever solutions that have been implemented by the Office of Planning and Economic Development to spur development in its downtown urban core.
Illustrating the saying that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’, Turners Falls RiverCulture Director Suzanne LoManto will talk about her frustration finding studio space as the impetus for Space.fosteringartandculture.org — Created with the expertise of web developer Rich Roth, Space is designed to connect people with studio, exhibition, and retail art space in The Pioneer Valley, and Western Mass. The webservice will serve as a central place for people to list art space available to rent or buy.
